Skirting the Issue

With much encouragement from my fellow blogging fashionista's out there, I've made it my personal goal to wear more skirts and dresses this spring and summer- despite the fact that spring refuses to show it's lovely face.

I've decided to revisit my past clothing purchases and make them wearable. I originally purchased this fun fuschia and chocolate brown skirt for my honeymoon in Oahu. It was on clearance at our local JC Penney for $6! So I bought it's friend too- a nearly identical print in black and blue. I didn't own any light and flowy skirts before this and thought this would be perfect to toss over a tank or my swimsuit for a stroll on the beach or while out site-seeing. It's been hanging in my closet for almost 3 years- unworn. Sad, I know.

Brown Top (Charlotte Russe), Skirt (JCP, $6), Belt (Payless), Brown Bow Flats, Necklace/Earrings/Bracelets (Cookie Lee Jewelry by me)

Below is a close up of the detail on the Love Bird Necklace I'm wearing. It's from Cookie Lee's 2011 Spring/Summer Line. I absolutely love it. I'm kinda loving the highwaisted skirt look and the vintagey- accessories right now.  What about you?

The Paper Doll Project: Neutrals and Coral

This is my first time participating in this group project, and it was so much fun.
The outfit...

And then the interpretation of the outfit.

My partner for this project was Stephanie at SomedaySmarter. And she put this out fit together for me.
What I wore to get dental work and out to dinner with my Aunt.. (I'm trying to smile- really I am!)
I love how Stephanie paired the neutral and the coral with gold accessories. I however was unsuccessful in finding a gold belt- anywhere, so I substituted with my chocolate brown belt.

Coral Danskin v-neck, (Walmart); tweed pleat skirt by Twenty One via PV thrift store; shoes and belt (Payless), bracelets (Cookie Lee Jewelry)

Copper "Key to My Heart" Necklace, DIY; Multi-Strand Bead Necklace, Cookie Lee Jewelry

Sale FioniLockleer Flower T-Strap Sandal

Stephanie did a great job designing this outfit. The colors work so well together. I love it! I look forward to the next round of the Paper Doll Project Challenge.

What do you think?

Paper Doll Project May '11

Stephanie chose this lovely floral blouse for me to style an outfit around. While looking through her blog and chictopia for outfit archives I saw she had a pair of cute flats, a chambray skirt, woven belt, and whimsical bicycle necklace. The pieces came together nicely into a very wearable look.

Circle Circle Dot Dot...

...I got my cootie shot.

Here's my outfit of the day. Sadly Blogger.com was down so I am posting this now.

"Does my hair look okay?"

I'm not exactly sure what look I was going for today: kindergarden teacher or 50's housewife, but I liked it. The weather today allowed for short sleeves and bare legs- plus it was comfortable and office appropriate. I just wish the dress was a few inches shorter so it wouldn't peek out from beneath the skirt.

Leg popped, now all I need is an apron.
White eyelets

Real blood cells

Blood Cells?
Funniest thing happened... our nurse practitioner ran into me in the hall today and stopped to inspect the print of my dress. "Mygosh, Mandy those look like blood cells, are they?" I didn't plan that, but I smile and wonder if the former owner of my dress was a nurse and had bought this garmet soley because of the print's likeness to a blood cell. Could it be? But how appropriate the print, with me working in a medical office.

"Here KittyKitty"...

What do you think? Does this look too blood cell like? Should I keep it and continue to rock it? or donate it back to the thrift store?

Black and Blue and Ice Cream Too!

Today was my little brother's birthday so my family took him out to dinner at BJ's Brewhouse.
We ordered yummy deep dish pizzas and for dessert their famous Pizookie trio. Where they serve gooey warm out-of-the-oven cookies in mini pizza pans and top it with your choice flavor ice cream.

We chose the Peanut Butter (with Vanilla ice cream, Ghiridelli's triple Chocolate (with Chocolate ice cream), and Double Chocolate (with Cookie's and Cream). Mmmm mmm mmm..

I love these gray metallic flats from Ross- they are so comfy.

High-Waisted: EBEW Florals

I'm super happy with this look that came together. I wore this to a Celebration of Life and a Cookie Lee Team Meeting. I hadn't thought of layering a skirt over a dress before now, but it worked! It also qualifies for entry into the Everybody, Everywear Floral challenge.

Florals | Everybody, Everywear

Here's the math of it all: Black Dress + Black/Pink/White Bold Floral Skirt + Dark Grey Sweater + Cookie Lee Jewelery + Strappy Heels =  This!

What do you think?

Nemo has a "Nemo fin", and Yes, I have a "Nemo toe."

Sporting the flippy floppies while we walked to lunch downtown. Hubby took this pic.

Pattern Close up!

I love the sheer and sequin detailing on this short sleeved cardi. This was a fantastic find while thrifting.

In front of a vacant storefront downtown. I love the old time feel our small town still has.

I feel pretty, oh so pretty!

A high contrast edit of this photo brought out the colors and textures of this otherwise washed out pic.

Have you had success layering an outfit in this manner? Questions? Concerns? Love it/Hate it? Leave me a comment so I can check out your EBEW outfit, too.

This look for less comes to about $35 (clothes, scarf, boots, belt)

For you listening pleasure...

Gleefully Yours

Ok guys I think I'm officially a "Gleek". I watched nearly the whole first season of Glee yesterday while at home sick in bed... and love it! The songs, the dancing, the costumes, the drama of it all. I'll admit, up until now, I have only caught one episode and wasn't thoroughly excited about it. But I wanted to give it a fair chance to catch me from the first season, and it has.

Emma's character dresses so cute. Her styles are very fun and feminine which is very "IN" this spring. Ruffles, flowers, bows, cute cardi's, bright colors, great accessories, from the jewelry to the shoes. This girl can rock a sweater guard and make it look trendy and not so "Golden Girls".

Love how this black and white dress was punched up by the turquoise cardi.

Any other Gleeks out there? Who has the best wardrobe on the show in your opinion? I'm anxious to hear :)
