Peacock Crossing

My Pleasant Little Peacock
Driving home today I saw two real live peacocks crossing the road. They were gorgeous! Luckily I had my camera in my purse, so I pulled over and creapt slowly and quietly from the car. Peacock one was on the opposite side of the fence by now and peacock two was about 3 yards from me. Unfortunately, the combination of my approach and a loud oncoming delivery truck startled the peacock nearest me, causing him to leap atop the fence. Before today I'd only seen them at the zoo when I was a kid. Their vibrant colors amazed me. Their beauty captivates.

With that note I will share some of my favorite peacock inspired items!

Ironically, my copy of the current Victoria's Secret Catalog arrived in the mail today and I'm in love with the cardigan featured below! It reminds me of the simple ruffle cardigan I already have. The soft lavendar color is lovely, but a more vibrant corally-bubbleyum color looks so much more yummy. Yes, I said yummy.

5 Things Friday- Dry Shampoo- Love it? Hate it?

Oscar Blandi Pronto Invisible Volumizing Dry Shampoo Spray 5 oz
Oscar Blandi Volumizing Dry Shampoo, Ulta, $23 for 5 oz

I'm guilty. I wash my hair everyday. Sometimes twice in a day, although very rarely. My stylist, Sarah has stongly urged me to ease up on the daily washings since I've started highlighting and lowlighting my hair. I always find it a struggle to go that extra day without shampooing. Usually I figure- "Hey! I'm in the shower, my hair's already wet- I might as well lather up!" But this as I'm told time and time again- can strip the moisture and color from your hair from the overwashing, and that it is healthy to have some oils in your hair. To me, my hair however feels gross within 24 hrs or less. I really think that the dry shampoo will help me greatly on my in between days. I've only just discovered dry shampoo a few wks ago and I love it so far! I picked up Oscar Blandi Pronto Invisible Volumizing Dry Shampoo Spray. I asked the honest opinion of 3 separate Ulta Associates whilst wandering the isles in search of the perfect product. Normally I go for the lesser expensive version of a product if I've never tried it before. Who wants to drop $$ on a product that doesn't work for them or suit their beauty needs? Right? But this spray smelled so nice and fresh and didn't feel sticky on my skin. I figure I will actually use a product that I like, so that alone was worth the splurge. It works great and smells great. And keeps my roots from looking limp, and greasy.

Here are 5 others to try:
Au Naturel Dry Shampoo
Au Naturel Dry Shampoo, Sephora. $23 for 2.9 oz.

TIGI Rockaholic DIRTY SECRET Dry Shampoo (6.oz)
TIGI Rockaholic Dirty Secret Dry Shampoo, Walgreens $21.99

Suave Dry ShampooTarget $2.69
Salon Grafix new Invisible Dry Spray Shampoo ($7, 4 oz. can).  Available at CVS, Walgreens

BigSexyHair Dry Shampoo, ULTA (In store only) $15

How often do you wash your hair? Have you tried dry shampoo? What has been your experience with it? Did you love or hate it? What are your tips for keeping your hair looking good in between washes?

Farewell Elizabeth...

Image: movieeye.com

Today the world said goodbye to the very beautiful and talented, Elizabeth Taylor. She was 79 years young and had been married 8 times to 7 different men. She had a wit about her and was known for not only her movies but also for her interviews and quotable moments. It's reported that her funeral was scheduled for 2pm and at her request she asked to have her ceremony start at 2:15 so that it could be said that she was actually "late to her own funeral". I love this woman and her sense of humor. She reminds me so much of my grandmother. And that is one thing we have in common. We were both named after our grandmothers. She after her grandmother, Elizabeth Mary and I after my Gran, Elizabeth Catherine. Mine however is my middle name. Today I truely realized how very little I really knew about this wonderful actress and now would like to know more.

Some famous words of Elizabeth Taylor to inspire us all.
  • "Give. Remember to always give. This is the thing that will make you grow."
  • "My mother says I didn't open my eyes for eight days after I was born, but when I did, the first thing I saw was an engagement ring. I was hooked."
  • "When you're fat, the world is divided into two groups - people who bug you and people who leave you alone. The funny thing is, supporters and saboteurs exist in either camp."
  • "One problem with people who have no vices is that they're pretty sure to have some annoying virtues."
  • “Success is a great deodorant. It takes away all your past smells.”
  • “I feel very adventurous. There are so many doors to be opened, and I’m not afraid to look behind them.”
  • “I have a woman’s body and a child’s emotions.”
  • “If it is not to make the world better what is money for?”
  • “I’m a survivor – a living example of what people can go through and survive.”
  • “I’m not worried about dying. I consult with God, my maker. And I don’t have a lot of problems to work out. I’m pretty squared anyway.”
  • “It is very strange that the years teach us patience – that the shorter our time, the greater our capacity for waiting.”
  • “I’ve been through it all, baby, I’m mother courage.”
  • "Big girls need big diamonds."
  • I am a very committed wife. And I should be committed too – for being married so many times."
  • I don’t pretend to be an ordinary housewife.
  • When the sun comes up, I have morals again.
  • I’ve only slept with men I’ve been married to. How many women can make that claim?
  • If someone’s dumb enough to offer me a million dollars to make a picture, I’m certainly not dumb enough to turn it down.

Raindrops Keep Fallin On My Head

Saturday March 19, 2011

Today's post made me realize that I haven't taken advantage of outdoor photo ops as much as I should.

Yet another rainy day here in Nevada County. I must say the rain is nice but with so much we've recieved from these back to back storms is nearly too much to handle for everyone down river from us. I last heard there was some flooding in the Sacramento area.

Today I donated 4 bags of clothes to the local thrift store. It feels great to do a little spring cleaning and to donate to a good cause.

Sans Coat

I'm loving my new boots. Now all I need is a black pair and I'll be set ;)

Spent this lovely rainy evening with my husband for dinner and a movie. When we got there- the theater was empty! I guess that's what happens when you go to the 9:40 showing in a small town on a super stormy night. Luckily about 5 mins into the movie a few people filed in. It weirds me out a little when the theater is like a ghost town. I swear I saw a tumble weed blow through the isle. Leave it to the fact that I'm no longer a teenager or maybe it's just because the theater is really old and creepy.

Can't Pinch Me, Pinchy McPincherton

Happy Saint Patty's Day

We celebrated with a quite night at home.

This evening I was welcomed into the house by a gust of the smells of the kitchen. Corned beef, potatoes and carrots in the crockpot. Mmmm.

Here are some ideas to show your Irish pride and to ward off those Pinchy McPinchertons' you may encounter.

Have Your Cake...

...and Eat It Too

My friend Lu has no qualms about ordering her dessert before dinner. I love her. It just proves that all those times as a kid, being told to eat your dinner before you can have dessert... well means nothing when you are an adult. In the words of Cartman, "I do what I want." :)

We had dessert, then dinner and drinks at Applebee's before spending a few hours playing dress up at a local discount clothing store. Needless to say it was time well spent putting outfits together and helping each other pick the right pieces to flatter their figure, complexion and hair color. It was so much fun.

So we all split the super yummy Triple Chocolate Meltdown®. Applebee's describes it as, "A magnificently moist chocolate cake topped with both dark and white chocolate. Its' fudge-filled center will erupt upon first bite! Served with vanilla ice cream and hot fudge."

New Do's,  New You's

This is my friend Tiffany from The Clothed Commuter, she is one of the main reasons I started my own blog. She has a wonderful sense of style and a sense of humor like my own. I have enjoyed following her 30 for 30 challenge posts and the super cute outfits she comes up with. Check out her blog sometime for inspiration of your own.
